Family Travels Welsh Countryside |
Our Day Sightseeing Northern Wales We left on A 470 out of Conwy First Stop Trefriw Woolen Mills. Then on to Betws-y-Coed In Snowdonia National Park Next we stopped for at Blaenau Ffestiniog for tours at Llechwedd Slate Mines We headed to Portmeirion and Porthmadog however, the traffic was bad So we diverted to Beddgelert for ice cream. Main destination was Caenarfon...the castle of the Prince of Wales On the way back to Conwy we sidetripped to Beumaris on the Isle of Anglesey. Those were the big sights....however, the beauty of Wales is in the journey...not the destination. Certainly, hit the big sights....but leave time for exploring and enjoying. Our only regret...not leaving time for Betws-y-Coed, Harlech, Criccieth ....next time! |
Trefriw Woolen Mills. Not much to see...we missed the demos The retail shop was fun Our littlest is an avid knitter so she bought some yarn for a scarf |
We were very sad to bypass Betws-y-Coed...We were running out of time and wanted to get to the Mines and have time for the castles. |
Blaenau Ffestiniog (BLIGH-nigh FEST-tin-yog) and theLLechwedd Slate Mines There are two 30 minute tours. The green tram stops for a easy flat walking tour. Don't miss the slate splitting demo at the end of the tour The yellow tram descends deep, deep into the mines for a 1/2 mile of walking |
Back on the Road Again We stop in Beddgelert at the Glaslyn Homemade Ice Cream Shop Just follow the mob. |
We end our day with two stops at King Edward's Castles (see other web page) We barely made Caernarfon with one hour to spare. Once we got to Beaumaris, it was closed but quiet and peaceful |
